Sideroom art sale!!

The worst art to collect is your own, so we decided its time to clear out our studios and have a Sideroom garage sale. This will be great chance to score artwork from all those artists you’ve always wanted but never been able to afford. Awesome art and other cool stuff at bargain prices. OH YEAH!.

28 days

Thanks to Tove for pointing this out.

Small town NZ taking a pretty hardline stance on graffiti. I always think when in Napier that graffiti doesn’t really have a place there, what with the buildings the history, the plain beauty of the place. It’s like a time capsule that graff is completely out of place in. I’m all for juxtaposition but yeah. The stings on the other hand….

Anyway I was under the impression you would have to be charged with ‘criminal damage’ as opposed to ‘willful damage’ to get a jail term. Willful damage being the every day charge for graffiti offences. I might be wrong, feel free to correct or fill me in. Definitely worth a not guilty plea and contest in court I would of thought, and even then an appeal. I know it cost’s money but a months jail for 4 tags?

Father of the convicted,

“I know what the judge was trying to do and I respect that. But what he’s done is not good for anyone. Five days in prison is fair enough. Let him see what it’s like. But 28 days? People who hit their wives get less than that, drink-drivers get less than that.”

And he’s right. Sheesh, small town NZ, conservative as you like.

There’s a poster text from Paris in the 60’s reading, “Conservatism is a synonym for rotteness and ugliness”

And again referring to ‘middle nz’ as represented by your typical talkback caller (who I admit is not representative of all of society but sadly a large part of it), then I have to agree.

” Do you ever question the thoughts the person next to you at an opening
of a show? Do you ever question your own, or think do i fully understand
the meanings of the artist is trying to portray?  You might at some points
want to simplify yourself and just go for the simple fact that you like
the images being portrayed.  This is all in question because the artist
may be thinking the exact same thing about the people viewing his/her
work.   We here have asked a simple question and are asking it through our
poster design.  Our purpose built print “mistakes” are asking if the
viewer is aware of their surrounding as much as they think they are, or
their willingness to question and challenge what is often accepted as the
norm.”

A small bit of stuff will be awarded to the person who on opening night
whispers or exclaims these “mistakes” to myself, or Crackedink”

See you at the show!

Thanks to B for the images, first one is a Stencil with chalk powder and the second done with bleach, nice how they work in reverse - usually it’s the shadows painted in one colour stencils. Good to see people making use of the ground, there is after all no shortage of it.
