so tired
Thought i’d address the lack of activity here with a fluffy filler about how hard my life is.
All lameness aside (not really), damn i’m so tired. Never been so tired. I’ve got an immune system running so low I catch every crummy bug doing the rounds, all I want is sleep and to be left alone. At least I can choose to let my phone die, email however is a persistant mother fucker.
Anyway we here at streetarse are looking forward to a reinvigorated 09, yeah it’s over a month away but i’m pretty much writing the rest of this year off. Call it recovery.
There has been the usual slow turnover of street arse here in AK (can’t speak for the rest of the country), graffiti is ever present though kind of repetitious and dull, however the legal walls have never looked better, the train lines a bit of a mess. I’m convinced there is a huge area of unexplored opportunity out there, while slightly tired of conventional approaches (stencils, posters etc) they retain a certain effectiveness. However there is so much more…..
Looking forward to trying to dig that shit out and serve it up here for your consumption and know it all commentary.
Really digging what is happening here at AucklandFuckingCity. Anyone who has lived in this sprawling souless beast will identify with the love/hate thread running through this site. Run by 3 unapologetic lefty wastrels, its a site of rare intimacy and truth, if a little bit of juvenile posturing (hard to avoid I guess if one of the contributors is a 12 year old such as Miso is).
And the recession, that self perpetuating catch phrase that convinces you we’re fucked. Well some of us may well be, but me losing my job is surely coincidental right? Nevermind, my partner makes a living from retail..oh, yeah..shit. I don’t have stocks, bonds, investments in crooked business’ that shed directors bonuses as they move off this mortal coil. I am involved in the ‘arts’ though and are probably prone to suffer as much as any grey hair investor or any importer of (diminishing) disposable income type product. Sponsorship will be a right bitch to get, art being such a ridiculously luxury good, National in office (despite their promises there will be no funding cuts in arts and culture), it all paints a pretty grim scene. Stock up on Nurofen Plus and ride it out in a fluffy haze.

Askew interview bombing science
This is just part of the interview check it out here
www.bombingscience.com/
BY: DAN JAMES (BOMBING SCIENCE)
Bombing Science: I suppose we should go through the whole formalities first. What do you write? Who ya’ rep? Favorite paint and color? Favorite style to paint and favorite object to paint?
Askew: I write Askew, I rep TMD, Stick Up Kids and F1 crews. I don’t have a favorite color really but I use Ironlak exclusively. They have been kind enough to sponsor me the past couple of years and it has made so much possible…I am so grateful for that opportunity. As far as having a favourite style to paint, I like knowing I can paint what’s appropriate for a given occasion or surface. Generally I like pretty stripped back styles with an emphasis on something between traditional letters with structure and something awkward with the odd strange or original take on New York style. I’m not a snob when it comes to what I paint as long as it looks better after I paint it. That’s a fairly subjective thing though I guess.

TrustMe
TrustMe was born in 1999 but over the last 5 years has been working on a project that has seen the creation of thousands of pieces of work.
This show, somewhat obtusely called a ‘retrospective’ simply for want of another word that implies it contains all old work, features a selection of pieces from this period. Photo’s, drawings, screenprints and even a couple of paintings – some personal favourites of the artist.
Come check it out, 7pm November 21 (fri), Corner of Mayoral Drive and Govenor Fitzroy Place, City.
